Pan Lutheran Ministries
PLM-FT was founded as Pan Lutheran Ministries in 1980 by a group of Wake County Lutheran churches with the mission to provide housing and support to those in need, to involve volunteers, and to advocate for those in need of adequate housing. The main focus has always been on homeless families with children.
Since 1980, PLM-FT also has operated one apartment near Wake County Medical Center that is used by low income out-of-town families who have a critically ill member of the family in the hospital.
In 1982, PLM-FT opened a residence to provide emergency and short term (up to 12 months) housing for homeless families with children. About 40 families per year are served in this residence with over 90% being placed in transitional or permanent housing upon exit
In 1987, a program of transitional housing was begun which includes intensive case management and life-skills training for homeless families. Approximately 20 families have been through this program while staying in rented apartments. ALL families have obtained permanent housing. During 1995, 7 additional transitional apartments were built for PLM-FT by Habitat for Humanity.
And the story goes on.
